This indigenous Taino masterpiece is handcrafted, merging earth and flame in reverence to the first settlers, the Taino Indians, original inhabitants of Quisqueya/Hispaniola, currently identified as Haiti and The Dominican Republic. The piece is a depiction of Trigonolito Yúcahu Vagua Maorocoti: the deity of fruitfulness, also referred to as the "Cassava Spirit and Lord of the Sea." It was a common practice to inter this symbol in cassava fields, a dietary staple of the Taino people, as a ritual to enrich the soil.
